My First Blog PostDecember 21, 2015 8:28 pm
Welcome to the first entry of my Blog! Although Condor Coaching is five months old (give or take), today I launch my website, Facebook page and first LinkedIn Pulse article, entitled “Own Your Destiny.”
And that’s what coaching is all about, isn’t it? Owning your own destiny. Living deliberately and with intent. Daring to want something – whether grand or rather humble – that will satisfy a yearning or help you take another step that reminds you to live well and to live with purpose.
The biggest step that you can take toward living this purposeful life is . . . wait for it . . .
Think about it.
I’m not talking about leading a country into the space age or leading an army into battle. (That’s a blog post for later.) I’m talking about having the courage to simply lead yourself. For those of us who are career-minded or who are parents, we can appreciate that there is some level of leadership that we all assume. We make choices on behalf of something – an ideal or duty or for the love of others.
If you’re a parent, your duty and love for others places you in a position of leadership. Who decides on dinner? Who decides on a parenting philosophy or on what priorities to give the kids’ activities? Who decides where to spend Christmas this year and who coordinates travel and food? These decisions make a difference in our lives and in the lives of others.
If you make a difference, you are a leader.
Expand your leadership to include yourself.
Take a deep breath. Lead yourself into a destiny that you own. If you’re overwhelmed by the choices or the energy it takes to focus and prioritize that destiny, look to a coach. A good coach lets you decide the agenda and gives you a boost to take that one giant step. When clients plan giant steps with me, we identify values and goals and move into the heart work of coaching. Both men and women I work with appreciate the time spent on analyzing their limiting beliefs, and sometimes those limitations are diminished simply by calling them out and demanding they be led away.
What a wonderful place to be — in a world where you lead the way and your limitations step aside.
What are you waiting for?
